Cascade is one of Magellan Development‘s newest high rises. In addition to many popular communities throughout Chicago, like the Gallery on Wells and Exhibit on Superior, Magellan is known for being the developer behind the Lakeshore East community. Over the past several decades, they’ve developed many high rises, commercial space, public enhancements, and Lakeshore East park, turning the former golf course into a full-blown neighborhood. Cascade is one of three buildings within the parcels IJKL in Lakeshore East, one of the last remaining areas to be developed in the neighborhood. The edgy interior design, thoughtful layouts, striking architectural details, and useful amenities make Cascade a standout building.
The positioning of this high rise offers optimal natural light for all units as well as stunning lake and river views, just one of the ways bKL’s thoughtful architecture is woven through each detail of the building. The glass facade, accented with copper expression panels, will reflect the surroundings, including Lake Michigan and nearby park, making Cascade an homage to what’s already beautiful in Lakeshore East. Upon completion, Cascade will be 37 stories with 503 rental units. Amenities will include a pool deck, an outdoor kitchen and grilling stations, a media room, multiple communal lounges, work space, fire pits, and more.
Cascade will also be close to plenty of green space. Adjacent to the tower will be Cascade Park, a new three acre landscaped park designed by internationally acclaimed Claude Cormier and Associates.
Additionally, the beloved six acre Lakeshore East park is also neighboring the high rise. Lakeshore East park is currently Chicago’s only free wireless park and also has a sectioned off dog park.
Cascade is located at 445 E Waterside Drive and is slated for completion in quarter three of 2021.

The massive $1 billion redevelopment of the historic Union Station has been reworked following the release of the initial proposal. The plans had included a seven-story apartment complex atop the landmarked Beaux Arts building which is no longer part of the proposal.
The new plan now calls for a single-story addition to the station’s historic 1925 headhouse building – to which the upper levels will house two hotels with 400 guests suites and an office space for Amtrak as well. The penthouse level will aim to blend seamlessly into the building’s existing architecture and will not be seen from street level.
To absorb the expected increase in traffic around the hotel at Union Station, the traffic management plan will work to reduce the drop offs on Adams. A hotel entrance will be added on the Jackson Street, retail space on Clinton and the valet will be relocated to the interior of the building.
The second phase of redevelopment will take aim at Amtrak’s parking lot structure just south of the transit center. The area there will be made into a brand new 50-story, 715 foot tall office tower. Designed by Chicago’s Goettsch Partners, the tower will feature a sleek, glassy facade with a 3 setback and angled columns at the base. This phase will also feature a 1.5-acre park and plaza open to the public.
Though it has yet to go through the entire approval process, the new reimagined plan is striking better public endorsement. Located in the West Loop neighborhood, this project will help with traffic and add new construction to the booming area. The bustling travel hub will become more accessible and add a modern asset to the charming history already preserved there.
