The former Morton Salt site will open this summer as Salt Shed, a new indoor/outdoor music venue near Goose Island at the western end of Lincoln Park. Salt Shed, located at 1357 N Elston, already has a full lineup of outdoor concerts for 2022 and both indoor and outdoor concerts and events for 2023.
Popular Indie bands, like Fleet Foxes, Mt Joy, Andrew Bird, and Iron & Wine have outdoor concerts scheduled through August. Tickets go on sale this Friday, 2/18.
The group behind this new development, 16 on Center, is no newbie at creating popular Chicago venues, with Thalia Hall, Revival Food Hall, Lou’s Assembly, Longman and Eagle, The Good Ambler, Space, and more all on their roster. While 16 on Center plans to spruce up and modernize the former salt plant, the historic site will keep its original character and iconic signage. The property also sits along a portion of the river that, until now, hasn’t been used as a public amenity.

Thanksgiving Day Parade
Head to State Street in the Loop on November 25th to catch the Thanksgiving Day Parade. Wells to Randolph Street. Stick around afterward for performances all day long!
Magnificent Mile Lights Festival
Each year throughout November and December, Michigan Avenue is sprinkled with holiday lights. The annual lights make their first appearance on Friday, November 19th at the Mag Mile Lights Festival, with the lighting of the iconic, towering tree in Millennium Park followed by a ballet performance and fireworks. Stick around the following day where the fun continues with ice skating, photos with Santa, and a live DJ, followed by the Festival of Lights parade that evening.
Christkindl Market
The Christkindl Market, inspired by German tradition, takes place annually at Daley Plaza in the Loop. Peruse handcrafted, specialty goods, start your holiday shopping, and grab a souvenir mug of spiced wine to sip while you wait in line for the beloved annual ornament shop. Christkindl Market will be open November 19th through December 24th.
