7 Things To Do In Fulton Market Chicago

Now leasing luxury 2 bedroom 3 bed and convertibles studio and penthouse apartments near downtown Chicago

Listed among the top 20 “Cool Streets in North America” in late 2019, Fulton Market offers innumerable good-time opportunities. Listing them isn’t easy, but our favorites include:

  1. See Celebrity Chefs: Grant Achatz offers Roister as an approachable yet Michelin-starred alternative to his landmark Alinea; Top Chef and James Beard winner Stephanie Izard has three places in the area: the upscale Girl & the Goat, heightened diner-style Little Goat and the Chinese-inspired Duck Duck Goat; 2018 Top Chef Joe Flamm helms the buzzy Italian-Croatian spot Rose Mary; and competing Top Chef brothers Michael and Bryan Voltaggio are prepping a new steakhouse, Fioretta, for an early 2023 opening.
  2. SoHo House: Once a belt factory, this six-story facility is part hotel, part private club and all swanky, Gatsby-esque fun. Multiple dining and drinking options, a rooftop pool and terrace, a gymnasium, spa, screening rooms and 40 guest rooms await exploration.
  3. Taste of Randolph Street: More than 16 restaurants helped this Chicago festival staple celebrate its 25th year over Father’s Day weekend. Bands, DJs, local vendors and artists complement the featured fine dining.
  4. Lone Wolf Tavern: Open until at least 2 am, seven days a week, this is the bar to hit for a bit of pre-gaming or a nightcap. Friendly and unfussy, and if you’re hungry they’ve got tamales.
  5. Punch Bowl Social: Once a meatpacking factory, this is 30,000 square feet of first-rate cooking, craft cocktails and amusements, including ping pong, bocce, bowling, shuffleboard, marbles and VR gaming.
  6. Emporium: An offshoot location of Chicago’s first barcade, Emporium Fulton Market combines air hockey, old-school arcade style video games, pinball, foosball, pool, skee-ball and more with booze for some childishly adult fun.
  7. West Loop Art Fest: A relative newcomer, this four-year-old festival is an early-September opportunity to shop four blocks of art without paying an entrance “donation.” There are also artist demonstrations and live music.

No longer quite so insular as when its many enclaves, ethnic and otherwise, gave birth to its billing as a City of Neighborhoods, Chicago retains many defined areas that offer distinct vibes.

Logan Square is the current hipster haven, high-rise and high-finance living dominate the Loop, Wicker Park and Bucktown cling to their bohemian indie roots, and Wrigleyville remains a boisterous and boozy mecca for young singles and tourists alike.

The Fulton Market District defies easy categorization. Long a foodie destination for its Randolph Street Restaurant Row, the district is also home to corporate offices — and corporate employees — of companies such as McDonald’s, Google and Dyson.

Fulton Market District: Things to Do Nearby

Another great thing about the Fulton Market District is its proximity to so many other exciting Chicago neighborhoods. If you live in the district, here are just a few nearby options:

The Theater District: 1.3 miles.
Millennium Park: 1.9 miles.
Wrigley Field: 6 miles.
The Museum Campus: 3 miles.
The United Center: 1.4 miles.
Greektown: 6 blocks.
The Chicago Riverwalk: 1.8 miles.

Are Luxury Apartments Worth it?

With so much (tempting) new construction in Chicago, many renters are wondering, are luxury apartments worth it?

Aysha Hackert, partner and broker at Downtown Apartment Company and DRC, shared her insight with Go Banking Rates and Yahoo on the topic.

Don’t Sweat the Small (or Big) Stuff

One of the major advantages of living in a managed luxury building is the caliber of management and maintenance. Buildings often have on-site maintenance with 24 hour emergency response. This isn’t something you’ll appreciate every day, but when you need it, you’ll be really glad you have it.

The management companies often hired by high rise developers tend to have a strong reputation with a national presence, which means more resources and systems in place to keep buildings running smoothly. From seamless lease renewals, to resident events, concierge services, and even minor needs like when you need a lightbulb changed or an appliance repaired, there are quite a few advantages to having a high quality professional management and maintenance team on site.

Third Party Vendors

Most high rise luxury properties work with third party vendors that offer incredibly convenient services. Popular services include on-site personal training, an option to get your car washed while it’s parked in your building garage spot, valet dry cleaning, room service available from a private chef service, housekeeping and cleaning, and even miscellaneous chores like plant watering.

When she commented for the Go Banking Rates article, Hackert used the example of a management company that offers a “Home Away” program. When you’re away from your unit on a vacation or trip, they will water your plants, water and feed your animals and deliver any packages directly into your unit.

Amenities

Many buildings include health club quality fitness centers with state of the art equipment like Peloton bikes, spa amenities like salt saunas, resident-only salons, and massage treatment rooms, co-working and flexible individual work spaces, rooms for entertaining and hosting private events, on-site coffee bars (some of which are even staffed with baristas), wine cellars, bike repair stations, recording studios, and substantial discounts on hotels, restaurants, and retail in the surrounding areas.

Hackert added that living in a luxury building can help cut costs for services and expenses if you find the building offers amenities that match your lifestyle needs. For example, if you move into a luxury apartment with a fitness center, you could save money by canceling your existing gym membership and use the facilities provided on-site.

Optima Lakeview New Luxury Apartments

Lakeview is a Chicago neighborhood on the north side, just north of Lincoln Park, beloved for its neighborhood charm. In Lakeview you’ll find quiet, tree lined streets between lively streets like Broadway, Belmont, and Clark, which offer frequent street fairs and are completely lined with dining, comedy clubs, nightlife, quirky boutiques, and coffee shops. Since the majority of Lakeview properties are walk ups, low rises, and stand alone homes, it’s less common to find buildings with the caliber of amenities you might find in the neighborhoods closer to downtown. However, Optima Lakeview is a new luxury rental building offering downtown caliber amenities to the people who want to live in the charming Lakeview neighborhood.

The stunning residences at Optima Lakeview feature modern yet comfortable interior finishes, floor to ceiling windows, premium appliances including full sized washers and dryers, and thoughtful floor plans with ample storage and dedicated work from home spaces.

2 bed at Optima Lakeview

With terraces ranging up to 1606 square feet, these one, two, and three beds feature some of the largest private terraces available in residential buildings in the city. Additionally, select large terraces come fully equipped with landscaping, trees, fire pits, and grills.
