Stay at Home Date Ideas

Saturday, April 4th, 2020

With just under a month left in the Shelter in Place order and an unknown amount of time left of suggested stay at home time, it’s time to get creative with date and activity ideas. Here’s some inspiration of things to do during at home dates!

Virtual Camping Trip

Another at home date idea to make the most of social distancing from your apartment is to virtually tour a national park. From the Grand Canyon and Joshua Tree to Yosemite, Redwoods, and Yellowstone, these 3D virtual tours allow you to visit national parks from your couch. Plan a zero-cost “trip” with your partner and turn it into a date night. Put on your camping gear, make a blanket fort (or for extra brownie points, pitch a real tent in your living room), turn out the lights, roast some marshmallows on your stove, and watch your virtual tour of the stunning state park of your choosing.

Make Your Partner’s Favorite Date Dinner

Are you a couple whose go-to at home dinner is cereal and milk or microwaved ramen, but when you dine out you always order things topped with fois gras and shaved truffle? This is your time to shine! Pick your partner’s favorite dine-out meal (the more extravagant, the better) and (attempt to) make it for them! It’ll either end in an incredible meal and new found hobby, or in some laughs and the microwaved ramen you were originally going to make.

Get Competitive

Start an ongoing competition with your partner. You can order two of the same puzzle and see who completes it first over the course of the week, have an ongoing push up contest, bust out the deck of cards and play gin rummy, or make food for the other person to eat with just chopsticks (hint: this one gets interesting if you make soup for your partner). You can also turn your competition into collaboration by teaching your partner something new. Maybe your partner is great at guitar, drawing, or handstands, or maybe they have a hidden talent you’ve never known about before. Each partner pick a skill or talent to teach the other.

Start a Partner Book Club

You’ve finally done it. After all these years, you and your partner finally have nothing left to talk about. Maybe these past three weeks of stay at home quarantine have left you in a repetitive cycle of conversation topics. If that sounds like you, try starting a miniature book club with your partner. Each person order a copy of the book to read separately. Schedule a time or two each week you’ll have book club and discuss the book.
