Cirque de Soleil: Volta

Cirque de Soleil’s newest show is centered around a game show host who is on a quest for self-discovery. The show incorporates popular elements of extreme sports including BMX and aerial acrobatics. Volta runs 2 hours 15 minutes and opens May 18th at Soldier Field. Click here for tickets!

Chicago Critic’s Film Festival

The seventh annual Chicago Critic’s Film Festival will take place May 17th through 23rd at the Music Box Theatre. A few highlights include a fortieth anniversary screening of Alien, which Tom Skerritt is scheduled to attend, Yesterday, a film about a struggling musician who finds out he is the only person with any memory of the Beatles, The Farewell, a hit from Sundance Film Festival, written and directed by Lulu Wang who is also scheduled to attend, and Light From Light, starring Paul Harrill and Jim Gaffigan, both of whom are also scheduled to attend the event.

May Fest

Kick off the Chicago summer festival season with Lakeview’s 24th annual Mayfest. Enjoy live music, entertainment, Bloody Marys, and festival food rain or shine. Sixteen Candles, Seventh Heaven, The Boy Band Night, and Mr. Blotto will be headlining. Chicago Mayfest will be held May 17th through 19th at Ashland and Barry. Tickets are $10 and available for purchase ahead of time or at the gate.

Run a 5K

Are you a runner who likes glow sticks or meat? Take your pick this weekend at the themed Night Nation and Italian Beef 5K runs.

Get your glow on and dance the night away! The Night Nation 5K will be held on Saturday, May 18th at Soldier Field. Gates open at 5:30pm with the first DJ coming on stage at 6:30pm and the race beginning at 8pm, followed by the main stage afterparty.

The Italian Beef 5K will be at 9am on May 18th at Montrose Harbor and will benefit JDRF, a non-profit which funds research for type 1 diabetes. Participants will receive an Italian beef sandwich at the finish line.
