From the few thousand new rental units that have been or are about to be delivered, and the new restaurants and retail that seem to open by the handful, to the multiple mega developments currently underway, the South Loop has been growing rapidly the past two years and is only continuing to boom. Community amenities have been cornerstone in these mega developments, which are large scale projects that include residential, commercial, and green space.
One of the most highly anticipated South Loop mega developments is Riverline, a $2B project designed by Perkins + Will and developed by CMK, with landscape architecture by Hoerr Schaudt. The development will include ten residential buildings for a total of 3,600 residential units, with a mix of apartments for rent and condos for sale, in addition to an abundance of community amenities and retail space.

Some of the community amenities will include open walkways connecting the Wells Street corridor, an additional 1,000 square feet of Riverwalk with parks, trails, and green gathering spaces, and a natural riverbank providing easy access for activities on the river, like kayaking and fishing. Riverline will have a heavy emphasis on nature with features like aquatic grasses and sedges to create a habitat for amphibious and aquatic wildlife and large, open green spaces.

With its convenient location, Riverline is just a short distance to multiple public CTA and Metra transit stations and highway entrances, three major grocery stores, Michigan Avenue, Museum Campus, Grant Park, and several major universities like Depaul, Roosevelt, UIC, Rush Medical School, University of Chicago, School of the Art Institute, Kent School of Law, and Columbia College.
